Know your skin to Love your skin
We’ve all been there. Looking for that magical potion or lotion to achieve a flawless complexion. Wishing for that porcelain like skin we see on Korean dramas and glamour magazine covergirls. Everyone promises the moon and we end up spending and switching our products as frequently as a bride on her wedding day. However just like our personalities and fingerprints, our skin is unique and personalised. What worked for your friend may not do the same for you. Life is also unfair sometimes because some people are just born with good skin genes. That said keep positive and believe that everyone can have good skin. It’s just a matter of perserverence and discovering the uniqueness of your own skin and working with it rather than against it.
1) know your skin
Skin usually falls into 4 basic types. Normal, dry, oily or sensitive. However they can overlap each other to form combination skin types hence making it tricky when it comes to skin products. Get your skin assessed by a professional and get the skinny on the best options for your daily skin care regime.
2) be consistent and patient
Just like all good things in life , sometimes time is all you need. Miracles don’t happen overnight but you will get there one day at a time. After all your skin problems didn’t begin overnight either. Take one day at a time and be consistent with your skincare routine. Visit your doctor regularly just to make sure the creams are working in the right direction and in the most efficient way technology in skincare allows for.
3) compliment with a healthy lifestyle.
There is a law in human biology where the parts that are least required are the 1st to go. In our body, the brain and organs are the most important and nutrients will be directed to all these places 1st and lastly to our skin, nails and hair. Therefore don’t be surprised to see the 1st signs of an unhealthy lifestyle showing all over your face, hair and nails. A well nourished body with adequate stores will be able to provide much needed nutrition to skin, hair and nails.
4) hydrate , hydrate, hydrate
We are 70% water. Skin will be at its freshest and healthiest with adequate hydration. It’s like comparing a raisin and a grape. The same thing with just the element of hydration. Drink up to keep from wrinkling into a raisin.
5) protect
So we are doing everything right from the inside .. Like eating well and drinking enough water. But don’t forget to protect from the outside too. Use good and sensible sun protection. Some skin types like oily skin types may opt for gel based sun protection skincare . You may also require re application if you are exposed for prolonged hours or with profuse sweating.
6) get professional advise and treatment
If you are going to spend money and time on your skin, do it right. Get professional guidance to know your skin and it’s unique do’s and don’t s. invest wisely on your biggest organ … Your SKIN… 🙂
Last but not least… LOVE your skin ! It’s yours and your nurturing will determine it s future……….
